Leadership Springfield, VHNA Project

2007-08 Leadership Springfield Project

In last year's 2006-07 Leadership Springfield Project VHNA was provided assistance by a group of young professionals in the LS Program. Their project primarily involved assessing our neighborhood’s potential by surveying its physical makeup and investigating opportunities for funding of improvements. We are fortunate enough to have been selected again this year by a Leadership Springfield group who wants to further the cause of VHNA improvement. You can find out more about Leadership Springfield online at: www.leadershipspringfield.net

A brainstorming session with members of the project team produced the following potential project goals. The asterisked items correspond with goals laid out in the “Neighborhood Framework Plan” section of the 2002 R/UDAT (Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team) Project Report. You can view the full R/UDAT report online at: www.springfield.il.us/RUDAT/main.htm

  • To promote a membership drive among potential VHNA members.
  • To promote expanding membership to include businesses in the area.
  • To review and perhaps change newsletter distribution areas to better target individuals and businesses to help recruit more members.
  • To encourage leader development for our association.
  • To assist in forming a TIF District to help fund improvements in the area.
  • To plan and promote streetscape along a well-lit pedestrian & cycling path between Downtown and Washington Park through the VHNA neighborhoods. *
  • To develop a plan for targeted areas for new infill residential development. *
  • To promote programs aimed at increasing home ownership and funding for the renovation of residential units in the area. *

Please join us at our next monthly VHNA meeting to meet the LS project team, discuss their ideas and provide your input on this upcoming project. This will be another great opportunity for VHNA.
